I am sure lately you have noticed we've had a lot of posts on here about non-toxic products and safe everyday items. Plenty of you are probably rolling your eyes & love your Neutrogena face wash or your drug store face lotion and will never make the switch (eh hem, my husband)- & I get it! But if you are not one of those people & you are on your own journey of switching to a safer, non-toxic lifestyle then let me fill you in on my latest find.
NORWEX! Have you guys heard of this awesome brand? Norwex is the definition of "cleaning without chemicals". It is a way to clean your house (& I mean REALLY CLEAN) by just using WATER. How amazing is that? I was totally skeptical at first until I tried it. This simple brand does more with one cloth than multiple chemical filled products combined. One word- HOOKED.
The Norwex mission is to improve our lives by radically reducing the amount of chemicals in our homes. Did you know that there are over 2,000 banned chemicals in Europe, but in America, there are only 11!? That is insanity to me. By making the switch to Norwex, not only am I eliminating the use of chemicals around my home, but I am also eliminating them from being a danger in my home (ie: under the sink at the perfect height for my toddler to reach).
The most well known Norwex product is the Envirocloth which is your all-purpose cleaning cloth. I use it mainly on my kitchen counters & Fox's highchair, but also to get marker, food, chocolate (you name it!) out of the rug, couch, walls, etc. Because you're only getting it wet with water, you don't have to worry about how it might damage the fabric of your couch, the finish on your coffee table, etc.
People want to know why it costs $17.99 when it looks like a traditional microfiber cloth you could buy at Target for much cheaper. Two main reasons -- one, the weave of the microfiber is far superior. Traditional microfiber is 1/60 of a human hair, but the Envirocloth microfiber is 1/200. And there's 10 million (!) feet of microfiber in just one Envirocloth. Rather than spreading things around the surface like a paper towel or cotton cloth, the Envirocloth lifts it off the surface. When you rinse it under hot water after use, some of those germs and bacteria will simply wash down the sink. Whatever is stuck inside the cloth gets taken care of by microsilver that is embedded within the cloth- which is big difference #2! Ordinary cloths don't have silver in them, and in the presence of silver, germs and bacteria cannot maintain their chemical structure, so they simply fall apart. Over the course of 24-hours, the silver rids of the cloth of any remaining ICK and it's ready to use again. But you can continue to use in the meantime, too, because what's tucked away deep in the cloth still won't cross-contaminate back to the counter or whatever you clean next. This is labeled as "Baclock"- which means self-purifying. You can use them again and again throughout the week without having to worry about transferring those germs around your house and to other hands. Pretty cool, huh?
The other cloth that comes in the basic package is the Window Cloth. The window cloth and a spray bottle of water replace what I had been using previously -- paper towels and Windex. Between toddler handprints & dog pawprints/slobber strewn across our storm doors and mirrors, I go through A LOT of Windex. Well...not anymore because I personally think this cloth cleans way better than Windex & all I have to use is water. God, I sound like such a mom.
These are the only Norwex items I have used thus far, but I plan to stock up in the near future. My friend Tara is the one who got me hooked on these products and she was kind enough to want to do a little collaboration with me to spread the word on how awesome Norwex is. Her top 5 are as follows so be sure to check them all out:
1. Basic Package -- Consists of Envirocloth and Window Cloth- two essentials for sure.
2. Kitchen Cloth and Kitchen Towel Set -- the cloth is great for counters and the towel is perfect to dry dishes and hands and because it contains microsilver "Baclock," it won't transfer to the next person or dish you're drying!
3. Baby Body Pack -- Tara uses these to wipe her kids hands/faces after eating instead of wipes or paper towels. Again, silver so it's purifying after effectively cleaning away the bad stuff! **I think this is next on my list to buy!**
4. Norwex Ultra Power Plus (UPP) laundry detergent -- Not only does Tara use this to wash her Norwex products, but she also keeps some diluted in a small spray bottle of water. It works as a fantastic stain remover on clothes, carpet, upholstery, etc.
5. Superior Mop Starter Kit -- Comes with large wet and dry pads.
Be sure to go through her link to browse and potentially shop for some new Norwex products- I really cannot recommend them enough & don't see myself ever going back to harsh chemicals when WATER works just as well if not better!
