Where the hell has a year gone? I will never know how time keeps getting faster and faster. Last week, my baby turned ONE and I was SO emotional. Mostly happy but also incredibly nostalgic. I never understood why birthdays were such a big deal for parents, but now I totally get it. You go right back to that day-- the best day of your life & you do the whole "at this time last year we were on our way to the hospital" thing and you get all feel-y. Anyways, I will spare you the details, but let's just say the tears were flowin. But good thing we had a "party animal" themed bday so the booze was flowin too!
We got a lot of "you're having your 1 year old's birthday at a bar?" & our response to that was "heck yeah, we survived a year of parenting so it's totally a party for us, too!" Luckily, the new Daily Growler is down the street from our house and has an awesome event space. We stole the theme from my friend (and also the lovely photographer of these photos- Ramsey of Fruits of Dust) who used it for her twin daughters' adorable 1st bday party as well. Theirs was more "animal cracker" while ours was more "creepy animal mask" but overall, we LOVED the way both parties turned out. To copy the idea for a girl's "party animal" theme check out her post.
Bottom line -- we partied like animals, celebrated our sweet sweet boy & loved every second of it. He had the best day, loved seeing his family and friends and LOVED his cake. This kid of ours could not be better if he tried.
Happy 1 to our baby boy!
