Galveston is a little town that is full of charm & hurricane damage. It survived the 1900 Storm which is said to be the worst natural disaster in U.S. history. It is a bit run down in parts, but is endearing nonetheless. We loved strolling around and checking out all it has to offer.
The Strand is a district full of historical buildings housing bars, shops, restaurants and hotels. The architecture is beautiful, plus it has an open container policy allowing you to walk around with a beer in hand so it's a win win.
We came across the COOLEST nautical antique store full of salvaged goods from shipwrecks, etc. This place was Phil's heaven-- he could have spent hours in there. We ended up buying a bunch of stuff & had it shipped back to Ohio for an insanely reasonable price (this place was seriously a steal, we couldn't believe how cheap it was!)
Speaking of nautical- check out this AirBNB we stayed in. ALL. THE. CHARM.
So much antiquey goodness. This place was the cutest. There were even little tags for guests to leave a note-- at the end of the year the owners put them all in a bottle & toss them into the ocean. COME ON.
The hospitality was unbeatable. From beach mats & bags, to the cutest little bikes to roam around town-- we couldn't have asked for more.
Phil & I love to travel with Ally & her hubs Brian. We have been on so many trips together. You know when you have friends that no matter where you go you will end up having a good time? That's how we roll with this crew. Fox was our new addition this time & he blended in pretty well. Kid can hang.
To go along with the vintagey vibe of the Island, Pleasure Pier is an old-fashioned waterfront boardwalk with games, rides, and eats. My photography skills don't do it justice, but I would love to have a picture of this blown up for my house.
We stumbled upon this sweet little restaurant called Porch Cafe in a really nice part of town & the food was UNREAL. But be aware- the pancake bar is only for kids...unfortunately 6 month olds don't count.
Obviously had to take these cuties for a spin. Such a fun way to explore the island.
Overall it was a fun yet relaxing weekend. I LOVE going to places I have never been before so this was perfect. Galveston, I am sure we will meet again.
