That's right...my dream of filling my house with babies has become a reality. The year I started this blog (2015) my husband, Phil, and I decided we wanted to start a family. We were not one of those lucky couples who make the decision and then BOOM- "we're pregnant!" Nope..for us it took a little more than that.
After months and months of ovulation tracking, taking my temperature every morning (RIGHT?!) and making ourselves, ok fine just me, insane, we decided to take a break. We agreed to make an appointment with a fertility doctor and until then do what we do best...TRAVEL.
Our appointment was almost a year ago to the day. On January 29th, 2016 I went to the doctor to look into some fertility options. After meeting with my new doctor, she agreed to start me on a medication to help me ovulate (TMI? Sorry.) We were leaving for a trip to Costa Rica one week later so she decided to give me a pregnancy test to be safe-- ENTER ZIKA VIRUS!
I said ok but was really thinking "knock yourself out, lady, but you're wasting your time." Into the bathroom I went to pee on what felt like the thousandth stick of the year. I came out and waited while my doctor wrote my new prescription. A minute went by and I glanced over at the doctor's assistant who was staring at my pregnancy test in total shock. She looked up at me and all but screamed "IT'S POSITIVE!" to which I replied "what do you mean?!" My doctor checked and repeated "you are pregnant!" I put my hands over my face and started sobbing. When I finally looked up, my doctor and her assistant were crying with me. The ladies behind the front desk overheard and started clapping. It was honestly one of the most surreal moments of my life up until that point. I called Phil (who didn't answer!!!!) and when he finally called back hours (fine maybe 3 minutes) later he just laughed and laughed and laughed.
One year later I am typing this with a happy, healthy 4 month old boy sitting on my lap and pulling my hair. Life could not be sweeter.
